A shoot I did up in Topanga with Demi Lovato. It was a lovely shoot up in the Santa Monica Mountains at the home of Darrell Hazen, owner of Hidden Treasures, which is the best thrift spot in LA. He has created a magical compound that has endless shell encrusted stone staircases, 5 foot ancient anchors, a small army of larger than life Tikis. It is a fantasy land that proved to be a magical background for the beautiful Demi. She was a consummate professional in front of the camera and even braved the chilly air in her sleeveless Claire Pettibone gown. She looked like a jewel laden mermaid who had just emerged from the sea. Toward the end of the shoot Darrell got a great fire going on his deck overlooking the Mountains and Demi threw her leather jacket on over a lacy blouse. She had a great sense of style, throwing in a boyish hat on top of a feminine look. She had this beautiful glow on her face as she stared into the flames. I continued photographing her and loved that we were getting a glimpse of the true Demi in her element. I asked her "How did you know that these shots of you sitting by the fire would be so beautiful?" She looked at me with a confident grin, with a shrug of her shoulders and simply said, "instinct!".
